An October 2016 interview with filmmaker Charlie David names Mecum among the participants in I’m a Porn Star: Gay4Pay. He appears as himself, contributing his experience as a performer.
Border2Border also names him among the gay performers interviewed, alongside participants who identified as straight. The production brought those different experiences into the same film.
The director’s questions
David explained that he wanted viewers to reflect on labels and on how fantasy is produced for audiences. He questioned the impulse to reduce people to a single category.
In his director’s statement, David described a request from a television network to explore the subject. He emphasised respect for how individuals identify themselves.
Interviews beyond the studio
The production company says the team interviewed performers including Eddie Stone, Brent Everett and Diego Sans, as well as Mecum. It also gathered public reactions on the streets of Toronto and San Diego.
